The Annual
Black Girl Magic Conference

celebration of Black girl joy, full of positive self-images, community building, academic sessions, and fun!

Stay tuned for the 8th Annual Black Girl Magic Conference in 2025!

What is The Black Girl Magic Conference?

The Annual Black Girl Magic Conference, hosted by Black Girl Magic Educational Services, is a celebration of Black girl joy, full of positive self-images, community building, academic sessions, and fun!

The conference includes engaging breakout sessions on various topics from coding to medicine to identity to analyzing stereotypes in the media. The day consists of inspiring guest speakers and activities such as a DJ, photo booth, and fitness classes. The girls leave with a sense of pride in their culture, confidence in their abilities, tools to use their voice to create change, and a strong sense of sisterhood.

Since 2018, we have hosted four Black Girl Magic Conferences, both in-person and virtually, serving more than a thousand girls. At the 2019 Black Girl Magic Conference, 94.7% of the girls who responded to our exit survey gave the conference a rating of 4 or 5 out of 5.

Conference FAQ

  • The Black Girl Magic Conference will be held on May 23, 2024 at Madison College, Truax Campus. There will be two arrival/departure tracks to accommodate different school start times: Early Arrival (8:00-8:45 a.m. arrival/1:30 p.m. departure) and Late Arrival (9:00-9:30 a.m. arrival/2:30p.m. departure).

    *Times might shift slightly*

  • Girls in 4th - 8th grade who identify as Black, African American, or Multiracial (with an aspect of their identity being Black).

  • Because we have so many girls attending, we do not have the capacity to accommodate individual girls who aren't connected to a school. If your daughter is interested in attending the Black Girl Magic Conference, we recommend sharing this information with her school and encouraging them to sign up when registration opens.

*Individual registrations will be canceled. If you have any questions, please contact BGM staff at hello@bgmesinc.com.

  • The Black Girl Magic Conference is free to schools because of our generous sponsors! That also includes lunch for all attendees. Your school/district is responsible for transportation to and from the conference, providing chaperones who can actively supervise your students at a 1:15 ratio, and communicating with families (although the communication template will be provided to registered schools).

  • The 2025 conference registration information will be available soon.

  • Registration will open in March of 2025.

  • Registration will be through Eventbrite. You will have 4 hours

to register before Eventbrite logs you out, so be prepared to register all of your girls and chaperones at once.

You can always edit your attendees up until April 19th.

Once your school’s registration is confirmed, a Google Folder

with more information will be sent to your school coordinator.

  • You will need each attendees' first and last name, school,

    grade, and t-shirt size.

  • Each school is allowed to register up to 30 girls and 2

    chaperones from each school.

    1. Please prioritize using Black women as chaperones within your school building. Allyship looks like:

      1. Getting creative with solutions in order to ensure that Black women can support this conference (coverage support, sub support, etc.)

      2. Ensuring that a woman of color can chaperone if you have no Black women staff

      3. Collaborating with a Black parent or community member to support chaperoning (please ensure that a school-based person is the main chaperone)

  • No, we are unable to hold spots, so if you are planning to

come to the Black Girl Magic Conference, register as soon as possible in March 2025.

  • We will be following Dane County COVID protocols at the conference. Please see this link for up to date information. We will continue to

monitor COVID levels and will update our policies, as appropriate

to the COVID levels in Dane County. Please make sure that students

who are feeling unwell or have tested positive for COVID-19 and are symptomatic stay home from the conference.

  • No, family members and younger siblings of attendees may

not attend the conference. We need to reserve all of the space

for the girls in our target audience (4th-8th grade Black girls).
